Happy New
Year 2013! Tomorrow opens a new and exciting
chapter in my life as I embark on my student teaching adventure. I am thrilled to begin my first teaching placement
in a 6th Grade classroom! Of
course I would be lying to say that I am not experiencing some “first day of
school” butterflies!
This new
change in my life has caused me to think a lot about my philosophy of teaching. What will my purpose be in the
classroom? How can I best help these
children learn and grow?
As
an educator I promise to provide a safe and thought-provoking environment for
my students which is conducive to growing academically and socially. I
firmly believe it is my role to execute engaging lessons that 1) foster
critical thinking and problem solving skills, 2) promote a culturally diverse
and respectful learning environment and 3) encourage students to be independent
and creative decision makers.
I have heard
from others already gone through this process that one of the greatest benefits
of being a student teacher is the real life experience and knowledge you gain
from working with students and being in the classroom. Having taught preschool for the last two
years, I could not agree more. No matter
how much you may prepare for a lesson, the truth of the matter is that once you
are standing in front of those students, you just do not know what to
expect. As a teacher you need to be able
to think on your feet, role with the punches and come up with creative ways to
improvise lessons based on your students’ varying needs.
I am excited
for the new road ahead and the different people I will meet. Over the next 16 weeks I will continue to
develop and expand upon my teaching philosophy.
I am truly grateful for this opportunity. Cheers to a new year!
Ms. Vince
